Ray Howard Jones
Examples of Ray Howard Jones’ work can be seen in the Museum in Tenby. Ray Howard Jones was born in the Berkshire Downs but when she was 2, went to be raised in her grandfather’s home in Oaklands, Penarth near Cardiff. When she was 12 she went to Tenby and it was there that she painted her first painting of the sea.
Wales' rugged and spectacular coastline was a huge influence on her. Even though she had travelled extensively she always returned to Pembrokeshire for inspiration for her paintings and poems.
During the war she was appointed as a war artist and she was the only female to land with the Navy on D-Day.
